Pittsburgh Advances to Super Bowl

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New York Jets 24-19 in the AFC Championship game in order to advance to Super Bowl 45.

Rashard Mendenhall (34) ran for 121 yards as the Steelers defeated the Jets on Sunday.

The Steelers got off to a fast start scoring all of their 24 points in the first half while holding the Jets to a measly field goal. In fact, the Steelers only allowed one rushing yard from the Jets in the entire first half of football. It appeared as if we were in for a blowout title game.

When the third quarter kicked off, the Jets were able to drive right down the field and score on a 45-yard pass play to Santonio Holmes and it looked like the Jets still had a fighting chance. After the opening drive touchdown, the Steelers defense really clamped down and didn’t allow the Jets to do much.

Sanchez was able to drive the Jets down to the one-yard line late in the fourth quater, but a big goal line stand from the Steelers kept them out of the end zone. A bad snap by Pittsburgh however gave the Jets a safety, but it was still a two possession game and a long shot for New York to come back.

The Jets were able to score on a pass play to Jericho Cotchery with 4:32 left in the game, but the Steelers picked up some crucial first downs and didn’t allow the Jets another chance to get the ball back on offense. Antonio Brown, who caught the big third down pass play last week, came up with another clutch catch this week to launch the Steelers to yet another Super Bowl.
