James Carpenter over Solder and Sherrod, seriously? I just haven’t seen anything from Carpenter that makes me think he will be a starting tackle in the National Football League, whereas Solder and Sherrod have potential as starting left tackles. On the other hand, Jason Pinkston deserves more respect than you have given him; he was overlooked but also very impressive at the Senior Bowl, and can legitimately play four spots on the offensive line, although left tackle would be a stretch given his lack of athleticism. Also, I really like Ricky Henry as a tough mauler who can play right guard in the NFL, but 2nd-best guard in the Draft? That’s a stretch, he needs work as a pass protector.
Carpenter was solid all season and kept McElroy upright. Is Carpenter special as an athlete? No. But, he is solid enough and plays with nice technique. Guy has an excellent butt as well and plays with better knee bend then given credit for. Sherrod was abused by LSU and isn’t physical enough for me with an average, but not great kick-slide, and Solder was just consistently beat, specifically by Cameron Jordan. Really don’t see how anybody could see Solder and Sherrod as 1st Rounders like they do. They were average at best on tape.
Jason Pinkston looked slow and unable to block anybody during Senior Bowl week. There is nothing special about him and his technique is average.
Ricky Henry was an excellent this season and doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He is great at pulling and getting to the second level, bends his knees well, explodes into defenders. Henry is as good as it gets as a run blocking guard prospect. As a pass protector, I don’t recall him getting beat all season. He anchors well and uses his hands well.
