The Old Man’s Picks – AFC West Predictions

Denver Broncos

Despite making the playoffs last season and having the league's second leading rusher in Jamaal Charles (above), the Chiefs won't have the same success in 2011.

This team is in disarray. The drama about who’s quarterback and the Orton trade is not a good way to start the year. Denver could start the year with a 3 and 0 mark, but that will be the highlight. I’m thinking they’ll win six games and going to give them a 6-10 finishing record. The defense will be better, but they will struggle on offense.

Kansas City Chiefs

This is an intriguing team because I believe, with smart coaching, they could have won two games the lost last year. There’s a time to take chances and a time to play it safe. The coaching staff needs to learn this as they were to blame in those losses. This is a team with potential, but I’m just not buying into them. Sorry, I see them going 6-10 and out of the playoffs .

Oakland Raiders

The Raiders. The only team to abstain from voting on the new collective bargaining agreement. Maybe Al Davis was hoping for a clause about giving Oakland a new team. The Raiders have some dangerous players, but not consistent players. I see them going  3-13, missing the playoffs yet again.

San Diego Chargers

The Chargers are my pick to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl this year. Yes, Pittsburgh I think is the favorite, but I think the Chargers will get to Indianapolis because they are ready to take off. This season they’ll have Vincent Jackson from day one, a healthy running game, and they’ve shored up their defense by adding  Bob Sanders who, if he stays healthy, will be an impact player. Takeo Spikes was a nice addition as well. I really think this is the most dangerous team in the AFC. 12-4 for the year.
