Raiders hire new head coach, Broncos DC Dennis Allen

The Oakland Raiders have decided on Dennis Allen as their new head coach.

After the Raiders new GM Reggie McKenzie fired former head coach Hue Jackson, the team needed to fill the vacancy. They did that on Wednesday when they hired former Broncos defensive coordinator Allen. Allen becomes the NFL’s youngest head coach at 39 years and 124 days old.

The Raiders finished 29th in total defense this season, so getting a defensive-minded head coach should help improve that ranking. Allen runs a 4-3 defense, which is nothing to this Raiders team that finished 8-8 in 2011.

Allen was the New Orleans Saints’ secondary coach (2008-10) and assistant defensive line coach (2006-07) for five seasons, and he also served on the Atlanta Falcons’ staff as a defensive assistant.
