Many people, including myself, were baffled when former NFL receiver Cris Carter did not make the Hall of Fame this year (or any year that he’s been eligible).
He’s fourth all-time in receptions (1,101), eighth all-time in receiving yards (13,899) and fourth all-time in receiving touchdowns (130). All of those numbers sounds like HOF material and yet he wasn’t selected.
In an interview on 560 AM in Miami, Carter seemed upset about not being selected to the Hall of Fame.
“I don’t look at the (eligibility) list every year,” Carter said speaking with Michael Irvin. ”I felt good my first year. I am the only person alive that’s eligible for the Hall of Fame that has 130 touchdowns that is not in it, so when you have a stat like that.
“You got more touchdowns than Jim Brown and Walter Payton … I am not campaigning for the Hall of Fame, so for me the list doesn’t change every year,” Carter went on. “My numbers ain’t going to change. It’s just too much productivity over the time … like I have no argument, Mike. I really don’t.”
There really are no legitimate reasons to keep Carter out of the HOF. SI.com’s Peter King said Wednesday on “The Dan Patrick Show” that Carter hasn’t been kept out of Canton “because he is a jerk.” That’s one of the worst excuses I’ve ever heard.
Keeping a HOF worthy player out of the HOF because “he is a jerk,” really? Sounds like Mr. King is being the jerk.
