Titans will split quarterback reps 50-50 between Locker, Hasselbeck

The Tennessee Titans know that their starting quarterback will either be Matt Hasselbeck or Jake Locker, but until they name a starter, coach Mike Munchak says that he will split the reps 50:50.

Hassebeck and Locker will compete for the starting job.

Munchak told The Tennessean that he hopes to have a starter named by the third pre-season game and that he can’t go wrong either way.

“Going into that third game you would like to have an idea of what your plan is,” Munchak said. “I feel so good about both of them I am not necessarily leaning either way on it. I feel like either way it is going to be a good situation for the team.

The head coach also acknowledged that by drafting Locker in the first round of last year’s draft, there is an expectation that the quarterback will need to play sooner rather than later.

“It is a tough situation to be in when you draft a quarterback in the first round and if you just don’t hand him the job when he walks in the door you are going to have some tough decisions to make. We realize that. It is a good problem to have, but it is a tough one to have too.”

Locker played well in the limited time that he played during his rookie season. It should be a fun battle to see which player comes out as the Titans starting quarterback.
