Chargers RB Ryan Mathews has broken clavicle, out 4-6 weeks

There was a lot of hype surrounding Chargers running back Ryan Mathews this season. Mike Tolbert is in Carolina and with no obvious backup it appeared Mathews was primed to have a big season in 2012, but that all changed Thursday night.

It only took one carry before Mathews had yet another injury. This time he broke his clavicle. Chargers coach Norv Turner announced after the game that Mathews will have surgery on Friday. He’s expected to miss four to six weeks.

Replacing Mathews will likely be a running back by committee which includes Ronnie Brown, Curtis Brinkley and Jackie Battle.
