According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, former Florida Gators running back Jeff Demps has agreed to sign with the New England Patriots. Rapoport uses Nohemy Baltodano, one of Demps’ agents, as his source.
Demps recently competed in the 2012 London Olympics on the men’s 4×100 relay team (he didn’t participate in the final, but he still received a medal for participating in the qualifying round). After the Olympics he told teams that he was ready to pursue his football career.
The former Florida Gator has a history playing football. While playing for Florida, Demps had 2,470 yards rushing and 23 touchdowns. He went undrafted because he told teams he wanted to pursue track instead of football.
Demps would likely begin as the Patriot’s return man. He won’t get much work in at running backs since they already have a crowded backfield as it is.
